What is the minimum tank size for a pea puffer/ dwarf puffer fish?
I’ve read that they tend to be aggressive towards each other so I was just thinking about getting one of them and I was wondering what the minimum tank size for them would be. Since they’re so tiny, would an elaborately set up 1 gallon tank be enough or is that still way too small? Any input is appreciated but please don’t be negative!
I wouldn’t suggest keeping a Dwarf Puffer in anything under 10-gallons. For multiples I’d up that to a 15-gallon for a max of 3 fish. Even with the proper space, you may have one fish who decides that the entire tank aught to be his alone, and will make the lives of the other inhabitants miserable. Never keep more than one male unless you’re keeping them in a very large aquarium, and even then it’s not recommended.
You’ll want your Puffer aquarium to be very well planted, with lots of caves and hiding places throughout the aquarium.
These guys need to be fed a good diet including krill, earthworms, and brine shrimp. blood worms, and other live and frozen foods. They will not do well on a staple flake diet.
