Can you cut a large shirt to fit a small girl with like cutting designs?

I have a shirt that i bought that is a large in mens. i need to it to be a small for woman’s. is there any way that i can cut it to make like a design like the one where people cut up the sides and tie them together? i love that idea but i need more. and i need to find ways for the sleeves. Thanks!
